Wedding Journaling, write it down!

by Heather at Outstanding Occasions on June 18, 2009

Francis Bacon was once recorded saying, “A man would do well…to write down the thoughts of the moment. Those are commonly the most valuable and should be secured, because they seldom return.” Some of the best advice I received was on the morning of my wedding. The soft spoken elderly gentleman that married me and my husband told me, “go home tonight and write this down. Record your thoughts and feelings. You will be grateful that you did.” Well, I took his advice, and he was right! I have been so grateful that I did!

Journaling your thoughts on your wedding day is an amazing opportunity to remember all the intimate details of the biggest and most important day of your life-the day you two started a new life together! And even if you can’t find the energy to do it that night, wait until the next morning when your memory is still fresh. Here are some ideas of a few of things that you may want to journal about:

-Your emotions or thoughts about the day in general
-What kind of conversations did you have with your family and friends?
-What emotions did you feel the first time you saw your soon-to-be husband that day?
-What was going through your mind as you said your vows?
-What kind of experience did you have during your reception? What was the atmosphere like?
-Were you given any special or sweet advice that you want to remember?
-Things that you felt grateful for. What kinds of blessings did you see?
-Did you and your husband have any special or intimate conversations that you want to remember?

Most importantly, record the love you felt. Describe in detail every emotion that you can think of and anything that was special to you. There are no rules, whatever you want to record. Maybe you can even get him to write down his thoughts! Remember to write from your heart. Wouldn’t this be such a fun thing to read every year on your anniversary, or to someday share with your children or grandchildren?

The day of your wedding is often the busiest you have ever been. Each moment is so scheduled with events and photographs and filled with family and friends and most importantly, the excitement of being married to your new husband! It can begin to feel like you couldn’t fit one more thing into that day! At this moment, you probably think that you couldn’t possibly forget even the smallest detail of your wedding day. After all, you’ve spent months agonizing over the details, right? But time has a way of taking it’s toll on even our most precious memories. So here is my advice: Go home that night and write it down. Record your thoughts and feelings. You will be grateful that you did.

And speaking of journaling…how much more inclined would you be to sit down and record some thoughts if these lovely little handmade journals from Rag & Bone Bindery were what you had to write in? I know I would be! (And not to mention that they would make super cute bridal party gifts too!)

I love this idea! It's true, there are so many moments that it's hard to recall the thoughts and feelings of each individual one. Journaling (or blogging!!) is a great way to have a record of such important moments in your life :) Great post!
