The first task a newly engaged couple should do is start looking for their wedding venue. It will set the stage for your entire wedding, and can be a very overwhelming task with all the different options to choose from. Here are a few tips for you and your fiancé to consider when trying to find that picture perfect venue.

  1. Vision: Before you start your wedding venue search, sit down with your fiancé and figure out what style you want to go with. Are you picturing a little glitz and glamour, rustic elegance, or staying traditional and romantic? Knowing what look and feel you want for your wedding day will help you narrow down your search for wedding venues.
  2. Price Point:  As we mentioned a few weeks ago here, the budget can be one of the biggest deciding factors for a wedding. Many venues are priced differently, some are based off of food and beverage minimums and others may have pricing packages to choose from. We like to say that your venue will be about 40% of your total budget; keep that in mind when you are out looking for your perfect venue!
  3. Expected Number: It can be heartbreaking to fall in love with a venue only to find out half of your guest list won’t fit. Be sure to find out what the maximum capacity is for each venue that you are visiting, if it can’t accommodate the guest list, check it off your list.

Once you’ve seen your favorite venues, pick the one that you can’t get out of your mind. Want to know some of our favorite Phoenix and Scottsdale wedding venues? Click here.

Wonderful tips to remember, Danielle. Every bride is excited about the planning just as much as, if not more than the wedding day itself. And finding the venue best suited to your needs is critical. Budget may or may not be an issue, what’s important to consider also is the service you get from the staff. Thanks for sharing!

These are some great tips, and I appreciate your advice to figure out what you’re envisioning for a wedding before searching for a venue. My fiance proposed a couple of weeks ago, and I want to get started on planning our wedding. We’ll definitely first discuss what we’re both imagining, and we’ll start our search from there. Thanks for the great post!

I am getting married soon and am still looking for the perfect wedding venue. I like your advice on sitting down with my fiance to figure out what our vision and style is for the wedding. That will probably help us cross off a couple venues we were thinking about going with. I want everyone to fit comfortably in the venue as well as not breaking our budget on the venue. I will have to take these tips into consideration. Thanks!

In the article you wrote that you should dedicate about 40% of your budget to the venue, and to keep in mind that you want to choose the perfect one. My friend from high school is getting married, and I’ve been helping her plan her wedding and reception. I’ll have to help her go over budget, and make sure that we find a venue that can stay within that. Thanks for the great blog.
